Adam Neate is primarily known as the artist that leaves his paintings around on the streets for passers by to claim as their own.
Much of his work is made using discarded cardboard and wood as a canvas, often torn and stapled to create layers of colour and texture. Fragments of fabric are also occasionally used to create further 3D ambiguities.
Neate would find the discarded material, take it back to his studio to make his painting, and then return the finished works to the same spot, encouraging those found them and liked what they saw to simply walk away with them.
He later began painting on canvas, but continued to apply his unique concept to exhibitions he took part in, where if someone claimed a painting, then they could take it home. The pieces that weren’t claimed were then randomly placed on the streets for lucky passers by to find and take if they wished.
An urban icon amongst his peers, Neate is also recognised internationally as a designer, having been commissioned by high end brands such as Dr. Martens, Sprite and PRADA. He has had recent success with sell out exhibitions and his originals works are now extremely sought after.
