Alex Brattell

Alex Brattell photographs the urban and rural landscape in search of shapes of thought, simulacrae and genus locii.

In the crowded city where the sky is excluded by concrete, steel and glass, his images are a rich and rare exploration of space. They direct the viewer to look for the moments of escape and places where there is calm and beauty; between the railings, over the parapets and through the gaps.

Much of Brattell’s work is about London, but other projects have taken him to Poland, Italy, The American West and Southern Africa.

He has had his work exhibited in various places in the London area, including Camerawork Gallery, The Clerk’s House Gallery, Shorditch, and The Gallery Cafe.

Brattell also works as a portrait, editorial and advertising photographer, and is a visiting lecturer in Photography at Cordwainers College, Hackney. He is based in Poplar, East London.
