With works that include dollar bills stamped with Madonna’s face, and politically suggestive pieces such as ‘Blairman Mao’ and ‘Chelvis’, Brian Jones’ “New Pop” art plays with well known popular culture images and re-delivers them to a wider audience and the current generation of art lovers. The result is a body of work that reflects the humorous and witty views of its creator whilst dealing with current world issues such as war and politics.

With works that include dollar bills stamped with Madonna’s face, and politically suggestive pieces such as ‘Blairman Mao’ and ‘Chelvis’, Brian Jones’ “New Pop” art plays with well known popular culture images and re-delivers them to a wider audience and the current generation of art lovers. The result is a body of work that reflects the humorous and witty views of its creator whilst dealing with current world issues such as war and politics.

Jones’ art could easily be seen as offensive, but with politicians, premiership football managers and pop stars amongst the collectors of his work, Jones has found a balance that makes this artist’s future one to watch.

Jones gained his degree in Fine Art from Liverpool Polytechnic, where he was tutored by Jeff Nuttall and Jamie Reid, creator of The Sex Pistols album cover art. Jones recalls: “The new head brought Jamie in to tutor the ‘problem students’. I asked if I could be put on the list and was told my name was already at the top!”

This day marked the beginning of a twenty year association between the two artists, with Jones assisting and collaborating with Reid on various projects, exhibitions, and events.

Jones has shown his work extensively both nationally and internationally over the past eight years. In summer 2005 he represented Wales in Bulgaria as a visiting artist. Here he experienced the dark underbelly of Sofia, and subsequently produced the piece “Satori Of Sofia”.

This year he has showed his work in ‘Prints of Wales’, an exhibition in Kansas City, and is currently working on a book titled ‘Dada Pop n Pistols’, due to be published in 2008 by Foruli. He also has many works in public and private collections, including a piece in the House of Commons.
