Paul Elliker’s bold acrylic work deconstructs the excessive utopian visions created by the media. Through the appropriation of low culture imagery, Elliker remodels the conventional landscape into a hand-made theme park of artificial colours, hills and horizons.

If traditional landscapes question our position in nature, Elliker’s work eloquently invites us to contemplate the contemporary environment. Within these images, Elliker gestures toward the cartoon utopia’s depicted by corporate machines such as Disney, the artist states ‘Disney creates idealised visions of American capitalism and political history, thus allowing its visitors to escape the fallen state of society’.
