Paul Marks is better known for his work with mosaics, having built up a substantial reputation creating site specific works. His practice works towards establishing mosaic as a fine art medium lifting it from the public perception of a craft or hobbyist medium.
He has created mosaics for numerous well known individuals and celebrities including Sting & Trudy Styler and author John Le Carre. With projects throughout the UK, in Russia, New Zealand and Barbados he is now one of the leading figures working in this field.
The works featured here are a selection from his drawings and prints portfolio. These monochrome images weave multiple lines to create a surface that creates a sense of depth, either through a textured veiled web, or the formation of sculptural phantom shapes. With the repetitive nature of such work these drawings can often be likened to optical illusions, which although simple in their make up, have the ability to disorientate the viewer and their sense of space and reality.
Marks lives and works in London. He studied with The University of Arts London at Camberwell College gaining a Ba(Hons) Degree in fine art and a Masters Degree in drawing. His drawings have been exhibited widely in curated shows and solo shows.
