Eyestorm at The London Print Fair

Eyestorm took part in this year’s London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy, London.

The space was constantly full with art-lovers admiring work by many of our best-selling artists such as

Lucie Bennett

Peter Blake

Bill Peronneau

Whitney McVeigh

John Pasche

Olly & Suzi

and

Martin Brent

Previous clients took the opportunity to see in the flesh prints they may have only ever seen online before, and those new to Eyestorm were appreciating the selection of work on show.

Annie Deakin from interior design website, mydeco.com, interviewed Vic at his new exhibition in Mayfair this month. The interview was centered around the creation of his art and the link with his comedian side.

Vic says of his current exhibition: “...is a fairly figurative narrative show. I started off doing a painting of a sky car, which is a flying car, and I put a dramatic title on it, ‘The Tormented Skies’. I thought it was very funny because it’s one of those World War 2 films but the aeroplane is obviously not sufficient to warrant a film made about it. I started doing more and more of them with these titles on them. Then I wrote a story about the artist, Alan Todd, who I invented so it became a kind of narrative show.”

SPOONFED REVIEWS VIC REEVES: WHERE EAGLES TREMBLE

Spoonfed Website

Spoonfed is the smart, definitive guide to what’s on in London.

“There are thousands of events each week in London and they are as varied and unique as the city’s residents and visitors. Spoonfed helps you sort through all of these events quickly and easily. At Spoonfed, you get truly localised event details, reviews by critics, artists, musicians and performers, and social organisation tools to keep you and your friends up to date and in the know.”

Spoonfed recently joined us at the exhibition of ‘Vic Reeves: Where Eagles Tremble’ and wrote a lovely review for it, so we are posting it here for you to see.

“...When the show dies down, a few fans come over and ask Reeves to sing the Shooting Stars theme for their phone (which he gamely does). It seems that maintaining a balance between being a serious artist and a wacky comedian is to make one interchangeable with the other, be talented at both and try not to take it all too seriously. Reeves pulls it off with eloquent aplomb. Eranu indeed...” Excerpt from April 6, 2009, by Katuschka.

'WHERE EAGLES TREMBLE' HANGING AND PRESS PREVIEW AFTERNOON

On Monday 30th March, Hannah and I set off to hang the ‘Where Eagles Tremble’ exhibition. Mews of Mayfair is in Lancashire Court, a cute little hidden away courtyard situated just off New Bond Street down a little alley way that runs alongside Mui Mui. It’s also accessible by going past Hush from Brook Street, or from Grosvenor Street. The space is a disused shop that was acquired by Mews but never used since; Eyestorm are the first to occupy it as a gallery space so we’d had it all painted white and made nice the previous week ready to put the work on the wall on the Monday.

We’d had an idea of where each work was going a couple of weeks before; since the space is so characteristic with little walls and windows, nooks and crannies, it was fairly easy to decide where each piece should be placed as it just depended where it fitted! All went pretty smoothly and we’d even got the labels up on the wall by the end of the day.

Tuesday and Wednesday morning we did some finishing touches, including hanging a painting in the downstairs bar at Mews. Wednesday in the afternoon there was a three hour press preview when journalists from national newspapers, magazines, websites and radio stations chatted to Vic Reeves one by one about his working practice and the concept behind The Alan Todd Story, the fictional tale that all the paintings are based around. During this time Vic also hand painted a sign to be hung outside the space advertising the show, which we then nailed to the front of the shop.

Once the press had finished, Vic and I sat down for a well deserved glass of wine before guests started turning up for the evening. Read about the private view here!

Where Eagles Tremble opening evening, Wednesday 1st April

Outside the show

Last night saw the opening of Vic Reeves ’Where Eagles Tremble’, our new exhibition at Mews of Mayfair, just off New Bond Street, London. The evening was a huge success with the odd celebrity friend of Vic’s turning up to view the show, some purchasing paintings, others just having a drink with other guests.

By 6.30pm the small shop-space-turned-gallery was packed, with guests spilling out through the open doors at the front into the courtyard and through to Mews’ ground floor bar. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, with clear blue skies and mild temperatures giving the feeling of a summer evening. As the wine flowed, art lovers and friends and family of Vic, Eyestorm and Mews continued to arrive. The crowd gradually moved outside and dispersed as the private view came to an end, while Vic and his small party continued next door at Mews.

We don’t often blow our own trumpet but we feel couldn’t have asked for a more successful night and think a pleasant evening was had by all.

Why Blog?
Eyestorm has been the market leader for limited edition prints since the web was in its infancy, so over time we've become pretty opinionated on a bunch of art-related issues. So while we're here to provide you with the best art you can buy, we also wanted a flexible space through which to share our experience of working in the frenetic, ever-accelerating market for contemporary art. So this is it. The Eyestorm blog. Ups, downs, news, views and reviews.
