Buying and selling art on the secondary market has boomed
in the past few years. The rise in the publishing of limited
edition prints has meant that the same piece of an artist's
work can be sold to many different collectors, resulting in
that artist reaching a wider audience, and subsequently their
work becoming better known and more popular.
Eyestorm first started publishing limited edition prints by
some of the world's best known artists and photographers in
1999 when Eyestorm.com was launched as an attempt to bring original
artwork by high end artists to a wider audience.
Since then, Eyestorm has published with big name artists such
as Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Helmut Newton and Sir Peter Blake,
as well as more emerging artists such as Lucie Bennett and Antony
Micallef.
Many of these previously published editions have now sold out
and are beginning to appear on the secondary market at up to
ten times the original price Eyestorm were selling them for
at their launch. At almost every contemporary art sale at the
main auction houses you will find one of the Damien Hirst prints
that Eyestorm published in the early 2000's, and as clearly
documented in the press, auction highs are occurring in the
art world on a monthly basis.
The art world is booming at the moment, and the buying and selling
of limited edition prints are at the heart of it.
